Enactment of Black Codes
The enactment of black codes- The enactment of black codes was established by president Andrew Johnson in the old confederate states during 1865-1866. The enactment of black codes was made to restrict the freedom of ex slaves. The enactment of Black codes restricted free African Americans and the right to own land, move freely in public places, conduct business in the south. The freedom of former slaves was restricted by the right to travel, limited jobs strict labor contacts, bearing arms, and preventing freedom to vote or serve in juries. The reason the enactment codes were passed in the south was because after the civil war more than 4 million slaves were freed which caused a shortage of labor on plantations and plantation owners needed workers and complained to southern delegates that passed that passed the enactment of black codes. The effect of the enactment of black codes is the kkk because white southerners were afraid that their former slaves would come back for revenge for all that the plantations owners did to them.
